acclaimed russian producer, dj and live musician kito jempere is back with a stunning second album, this time on italian label hell yeah. entitled sea monster and due for release in early 2017, the nine track album is a fantastic fusion of live instrumentation and electronic production. kito jempere is a musical polymath. the russian artist, producer, multi-instrumentalist and band leader has been involved in many projects over the last ten years plus. these range from rock to acid jazz to electronic bands and often call upon a rotating cast of other members who are all equally talented. from playing in small bars to headlining big shows for thousands of people in saint petersburg, he has put out a number of albums and singles on labels like freerange, room with a view and hell yeah and djs around europe. jempere plays live as the kito jempere band, and here he calls upon his bandmates for their many skills to lend the album a richly musical feel.

who whom is a new label curated by scuba. the artists are various, the sound particular. the second 12inch comprises tracks by isaac reuben, glaskin, palendrone and markus suckut and is titled heavy on the magick.

the practice of pseudoscience, a three track ep by m parent, is the second vinyl release from the us based label chem club records. having been inspired by peripheral thoughts about pseudosciences, this ep is washed in steady emotional build ups using airy reverb, scattering percussion, throbbing stabs and solid kicks. the title track (a1) uses these elements to move towards a piercing synth peak while cycle of intellect (a2) spaces out these features as it creeps to a dubby impactful end. the b side temazcal rites was directly motivated by a scorching summer day when the intensity of the sun sparked an idea for a sizzling percussive experiment. what were left with is a funky but emotive soundscape that tops off the ep in a unique fashion.

after a blistering end to 2016, rhythm section intl begins its 2017 schedule with a second outing from peckham duo fyi chris. sitting firmly left of centre, these 4 tracks manage the very difficult task of being both unconventional and highly functional. highly recommended for fans of similarly difficult-to-categorise artists such as red axes, axel boman and baba stiltz.

slam city jams is back with its second release, produced by young brussel based artist kassett. this multi-talented dude not only makes great music, but also does visual arts (look at that amazing fanzine coming with the record) and has his own label & artist collective called midlife. kassett aka gavin vanælst isn’t about genres, but about emotions when it comes to his music. however, asking him what he would call the sound he makes, his simple answer is: rave ambient. the all i feel 1 million ep‘ is a record full of diversity. it reaches from emotional and dreamy, arp-based ambient tracks with rave and trance references, to broken beats, weird synth solos, up to a rough but melodious techno tune. finally the cherry on top of this special ep, is a remix by lobster theremin regular imre kiss. he delivered a dark and dubby version of the a2, that sounds like it was recorded underwater.

amsterdams cult producer and dj steven van hulle aka awanto 3 likes his samples vibrant, his drums wobbly and his synths sweaty as a detroit summer breeze. the mpc wizard returns to dekmantel delivering his second, full-length album. gargamel is arguably his most compelling piece of work. spread over the course of nine tracks, van hulle shows hes capable of serving up many different styles and genres in his ever-expanding arsenal.

informationstechno was released on cassette in 2014 via zeon light and it was nominated for best swedish dance album of the year at manifestgalan 2015. during 2015 the band received attention from swedish radio p2 and p3 and performed a series of gigs at home in stockholm. the second album informellt was released on lamour 2015 and a remix album called reformellt released early 2016. motormännen make information techno infused with an air of swedish nostalgia through a filter of retro-futuristic skepticism. the music is packed with minimal acid loops and samples with excerpts from swedish politicians, documentaries and christer glenning, reflecting on times when the cold war and the traditional welfare state were dissolving. inhibitions were relaxed and new, foreign influences crept into the body of society and the old information monopolies. motormännen s tracks are visually enhanced by messages from pictures and videos from the 1970s and 80s.

beginning with the straight and bass centered title track maple iron curtis moves on to the almost beatless and moody collision and the chord driven dub house of entago entery and finishes the ep with the delicate, ambient encore reset me on b2. with its impressive display of variety this record is a celebration of reduced, understated dub techno performed with a distinct musical flair and a clear artistic vision which perfectly fits label owner baaz direction of his office imprint so far. what s surprising is how effortless and natural iron curtis appearance on his long-time friend s record label feels. in such good shape his maple ep is a definitve tip for the lovers of sophisticated and detailed dub techno full of suspense.

freda & jackson’s msh002 is the second offering from sydney’s moonshoe records and their first ep on the label as a duo. in 2016 the two beat-makers burst onto the scene and further-introduced the label with a pair of singles, persius & sumluv to a warm response at home and abroad. msh002, although predominantly house-cuts, sees the pair draw largely on their hip-hop influences with a heavy use of sample chops and and raw percussion. the 5-track maintains an emotional undertone of sadness from front-to-back while each tune holds up as a stand-alone journey.

lessismore record label, founded in 2003 by the dutch dj and producer alexis tyrel together with mbc, has been home for mostly his own releases under all his monikers and various artist compilations. “return to planet alpha” continues in this tradition, being a second long-player of alexis tyrel after his debut “newtradition” from 2011.
“return to planet alpha” is a collection of elegant techno tracks which instead of following the now so popular dark and destructive path focuses on daily moods and airy atmosphere, which is closer to open air and lounge than to sweaty pits of contemporary rave. but that doesn’t mean that the twelve tracks are just indistinctive background music. for one thing, tyrel is a master of slick and tight beat foundations of kick drums and bass, often smoothed out with cool synth pads, onto which he layers all kinds of rhythmical chains, subtle melodic ideas and sounds ranging from vintage synths and industrial bits to organic textures and even field recordings.

deleted - with this fifth release, the moonrise hill guardians decided to deliver a vinyl conceived by half of them on the a-side and two friends they decided to invite on the b-side. the first side of the record is the more club oriented one, with two tracks from ethyène & folamour that sums well what made the early moonrise style, between smart soulful sampling to unstoppable groovy beats that will instantly make you burn a dancefloor. the second side starts with one of the two guests of this record, lb aka labat, with a house anthem that gathers all the detroit codes and an undeniable hip-hop influence. toshigi canopy has been asked to end the record, something that he did perfectly well with a more lo-fi track leaving you with a mysterious poetic taste that the moonrise hill guardians have always been defending.

r&s welcomes back space dimension controllers jack hamill for a ep of his trademark future-funk, his first for the label since 2013. the exostack ep marks a welcome return from hamill to the kind of astro-boogie that made him a unifying favourite in any discerning dj’s record box. the title track is a masterclass of wide-eyed astral disco - cycling euphoric arpeggios underpinned by dubbed out bass riffs and swooning pads. unfurling over a sizeable 8 minutes, hamill justifies every second with a beguiling arrangement that takes the listener on a groove excursion of epic proportions. on the flip, red hot swede kornél kovács delivers a tuff rerub that jacks up the drums, and cools out the chords, twisting the original into a classic house roller. sdc original biopan finds hamill in more contemplative mood - pulsing drums, a subdued bass figure and woozy synth melodies combine to haunting effect.

one of the uks most exciting and versatile young talents, route 94, is the next to make his mark on crosstown rebels with mind, body & soul featuring a body rhythm soul version from nyc’s joaquin joe claussell. cohort and leftroom boss matt tolfrey is also onboard, collaborating on second track habitual. the title track sets the tone of the release by heading straight into the late night hours with varied drum workouts and inspiriting keys that compliment the meaningful vocal. while habitual, produced alongside fellow londoner matt tolfrey who has been a mainstay dj, producer and label owner in the underground house and techno scene for over a decade, is electric and sensual with an enticing bassline. damian lazarus has enlisted influential nyc head and ibadan label co-founder, joaquin joe claussell to deliver a stunning body rhythm soul version, remixed in reference to his infamous body & soul sunday parties. here he delivers delectable keys and soothing brass tones as the serve of the day. route 94 aka rowan jones shot to fame, hitting no.1 in the uk charts with my love featuring jess glynne. keeping things largely underground, he followed with releases and remixes on leftroom, defected and hot creations. overwhelming success ensued as he performed at the likes of fabric, sub club, space, ushuaia, dc10 and many more. with an abundance of new material about to drop and a packed calendar of gigs already booked in for the coming year, this is only the start for the talented artist.

burgeoning dj and producer bontan makes his debut on the notorious hot creations label. hotly anticipated, the release features two original cuts to fuel his rising profile. uk based bontan has been using title track the first time as his secret weapon for the last six months and is now finally unleashing it. “i’ve been testing it and tweaking it play by play!’ he explains. ‘the vocal compliments the rolling bass melody and gives it a darker edge”. this a producer who fully understands how to create a track for a heaving dancefloor. personal question is the second cut and flips the mood entirely with a twisted vocal entwined in beeps and percussion, whilst stirring the sentiments of lost early hours. a firm favourite in the underground scene, he has built a solid reputation with releases on circus recordings, 20/20 vision, and cajual among others.

after debuting on mr. gs phoenix g imprint in 2016 with the unfamiliar territory ep, jayson wynters makes an appearance on dba for this, his second release, backed by a kowton remix. jayson wynters is a dj that is able to combine many genres in one set and make it work. wynters was first known as a garage mc in birmingham, before rising to prominence in the city s underground radio and club scene, where he showcased an impressive knowledge of rare groove and house music. as he got older his taste for music began to mature, his collection began to grow, and he soon began to dj. using music as an outlet for expression, whether in the form of djing or having fun on some drum machines and synths, is one of the most defining features to wynters. he continues to fuel his passion by keeping an eye on the future rather than the past and striving to remain different.

exactly one year after the release of their second album m eanderlust, randweg r elease their first ep with remixes - by nick höppner, alex.do, luke abbott and in a left place. the double-a-sided anderlus t / requisetales ep appears on funken records to understand how this record is intended, take a closer look at the artwork: no matter how you turn it: a backside does not exist. on their upcoming anderlust / requisetales ep, randweg present rearrangements of tracks from their two former albums. the new versions clearly bear the signature of their producers, but the tracks also reflect the full range of the duo, which has found its very own sound with clarinet, bass and cajon. for the remixes of two tracks from the ir album m eanderlust, randweg attracted nick höppner and alex.do. you can hear the joy both producers had playing with the original material, which was the basis of their versio ns for the anderlust-side. while nick höppner transfers the calmly prancing wokules walzer into a subtle but euphoric house-track, alex.do slows down the tempo in his version of pool, and plunges down deep into a warm downbeat-bath. randweg ’s debut-album equisetales was released in 2013, and it would have been a pity if the two remixes from the early days of the duo remained unheard in their private archives. luke abbott surprises with an abstract-pl ayful version of the track ball a nd in a left place turns y ofa into an atmospheric club-track.

ashley woz westlake is back with a nod to the sounds that have inspired him. moving away from the moodier melodies of his more recent writing, new tracks celsius and grain mark an exploration into some new techniques and sounds. feeling inspired after listening to some old bits from the great terrance parker and kerri chandler, woz loaded a 909 into his rytm and a vox, bongos and chords into a sampler with the intention of working on his workflow and having some fun. the end product was celsius which was quickly snapped up by lobster boy and left woz needing a second track for the release. he wanted to roll with the similar theme of giving his take on an older sound, so using the same workflow on the drum machine and sampler he wrote a track heavily inspired by his love for electro.

art-aud is back to present his second release of the main series, after booming with the secret rave one. this release comes from a really important icon in the italian electronic-techno scene, a person that from the beginning of the 90s helped form what we enjoy now through his music, parties and writings. his name is andrea benedetti, aka sprawl. over the years he provided help to lory d in creating sounds never seen, founded his label plasmek, created a fanzine called tunnel and a distribution company with marco passarani, to name a few. this ep contains three tracks of pure electronic excursion and a remix by the rephlex-twins d arcangelo. the track electrome was originally released in 1994 on his own label and now, after nearly 23 years, sees the light again with a remaster.

the totality of the many in one: cologne tape, an on and off gathering band from all over the world, did not call their second album welt without reason. the collective incorporates the nucleus of the label magazine and consists of the artists ada, barnt, jens-uwe beyer, jörg burger, john harten, philipp janzen, mario katz, john stanier and axel willner. all members live scattered between berlin, cologne and hamburg. they meet rarely and abruptly, but each of them always has the feeling that something relevant needs to be done. the ensemble’s name represents a city and the musical recordings that are made in it.their -rst release, -render-, marked the start of the label magazine in 2010 and found the way into dj sets by famed artists like dixon with music, which does not necessarily have the dancefloor in mind. subsequently, little, absolutely sublime pieces of cologne tape appeared in the public.
